Jen Tam is a Chinese American performer and artist originally from Honolulu, HI. She is a graphic designer and film producer by day, stand up comedian + lead dog in a band named VOG by night. Her biggest shame is being a former Yelp Elite, but she only wrote positive reviews and mostly used the opportunity to get a lot of free food and drinks.

One sentence to describe yourself and where you came from: Jen Tam is a 2nd/5th generation Chinese American performer and artist originally from Honolulu, HI.

What will you be presenting on? I will be sharing the dish of ginger poached chicken served with chicken broth, which my mother made pretty frequently for my family when I was growing up. I will be sharing stories of my mother and how this dish has transformed in its meanings for me throughout my life.

Best piece of advice you ever got about cooking: There can never be too much fried garlic. - Advice, from me, to myself

If you could only eat one meal forever, it would be: It would have to be Wednesday forever because it's the chicken curry noodle soup served only on Wednesdays at Ha VL.

Favorite food: Probably noodles

Recommended reading: I'm bad at making time to read books. The last audiobook I enjoyed was Ta-Nahesi Coates Between The World And Me.

Best meal(s): Sweet Home Cafe Taiwanese hotpot in Honolulu, every soup served at Ha VL in Portland, fancy sushi is always a best meal

Food you’d like to try: I heard there is horse sashimi in Japan... I wouldn't kill a horse, but if it was in front of me and someone already did the dirty work for me (thanks capitalism), I'd try it.

Additional comments: I mostly exist on Facebook - find me + all of my performance dates at
