What will you be presenting on? I want to talk about being raised by a young interracial couple who didn't have a lot of resources and how they helped us (their children) find joy in simple pleasures nonetheless. One of the ways they did this was using food to celebrate, and we'd do that in a big way by cooking ALL of our favorite foods on New Year's Eve. Celebratory food for us was a combo of Black southern comfort food & Polish American & midwestern cuisine, with a dash of hippie vegetarian recipes (because being young, my mom was searching for her identity and found her way to progressive politics and Quakerism when I was little). Food was a communal experience and a big way they showed us their love. If you love someone, you cook for them.

Best piece of advice you ever got about cooking: Follow the recipe until you don't have to anymore

If you could only eat one meal forever, it would be: Indian buffet!

Favorite food: Tacos
